Event Description
Join us for a free tour of Johnston Farms, a diversified vegetable farm in Clallam County that uses cover crops and plastic tarping to support sustainable crop production.

Farm owners Kelly and Christie Johnston will discuss how cover crops fit into their crop rotations and demonstrate the use of plastic tarping for weed suppression and crop termination. Participants will also learn how Johnston Farms produces a wide variety of vegetables, bamboo, watermelon, and exotic greenhouse fruits while relying primarily on hand tools and minimal machinery.

Conservation District staff will be on hand to discuss cover crop species selection, optimal timing of planting, seedbed preparation, and effective termination methods.

What to Expect
Participants should be comfortable walking outdoors over varied terrain and standing for the duration of the workshop. Please come prepared for changing weather conditions by wearing sturdy walking shoes or boots and dressing in layers.
